Most candidates are unaware that it is mandatory to have a valid Forklift Certification in order to obtain employment as a Forklift Operator. It is also important to note that an in-house certification is only valid and acceptable to be used at the employers company where the in-house certification was obtained (It is Not Transferable). If you are seeking employment as a Forklift Operator, ensure that you attend an approved Forklift Training School for training and certification. A valid certification is required to operate any of the following equipment:- Counterbalance/Dock Stocker, Raymond Reach, Order Picker/Cherry Picker/High Lift Order Selector and Pallet Rider/Walkie.
Based on our experience, employers often request that the employee has a combination of certification: Counterbalance, Raymond Reach and the Pallet Rider. It is also important to be aware of the fact that most employers require you to demonstrate your competence in operating the equipment by passing their in-house safety test, both theory and practical, before assigning you to any forklift duties. Having at least six months working experience will be an asset and if you do not have the work experience, ensure that you receive proper and adequate training, especially, immediately prior to going on a work assignment.
During the in-house safety tests, the employer will be observing and assessing your knowledge of safe operating practices, your start up safety checks for any defects on the equipment and how you manoeuvre the equipment between aisles.
Topnotch Employment has also established a working relationship with the Davis Forklift Training, North York, Ontario; Canadian Forklift Training Centre, Mississauga and the Industrial Lift Safety Training Center, Mississauga.
